F14 ground speed

I use my F14 for raking hay every year but it is a bit too slow in 3rd gear. My son helps me rake with my H at the same time and after a few rounds the H has lapped me on the F14. My H isn't real speady in 4th gear. Did they have a bit faster gear available and does the gears from an H fit? Is it a big deal to change out a gear?

There were several different gear combinations. The F12 and F14 are marked on that flat boss on the rear of the tractor above the PTO. But they are not marked very deep and any paint or rust must be scraped off to read it. The "F" is the standard slow speed. Finding the gears will be your first problem.

Depending on just how much speed you're looking to gain, you may want to consider an F12 gearset which should be commonly available.

One of the upgrades to the F14 was to bump the governed speed up a couple of hundred RPM, and they regeared in the input shaft ratio to keep the ground at F12 specs.

Putting F12 input bevel gears in will pick you up a little speed.

Harder to find but much more useful is a Heisler or Behlen road gear.

fawteen, I have 4) F-14 with 40" One has new tires The other 3) or on original tire and 2 are just about done May have to go your way to keep them rolling. Even new 36" cost to much. lots of good used 38" around. oldiron29

Those tires/centers were on it when I hauled it out of the puckerbrush. Guy wanted $100 for the whole thing, tires alone were worth more than that.

I looked into going to the stock 40's and even had a set of centers, but when I priced tires I decided real quickly that I could deal with the "incorrrect" 38's...

I hear a lot of blather about the H centers not clamping correctly to the F12/14 axles, but I've never had a problem with them being loose or wobbling.
