Live Hydraulic and vertical distributor

I have a 1940 M that has an M and W live hydraulic mounted at the distributor coupling and it has a vertical distributor. has anyone ever seen this set up and where might I get a replacement vertical distributor-the original ( guts) are shot.

Will the distributor pullout of that 90 degree part that makes it verticle???? It might be the same as all standard horizontal distributor parts????

I'm not saying that an original IH distributer could not be converted to vertical, but I assure you that it did NOT come from the factory that way. Besides, the IH distributer works fine in the horizontal position with the M&W pump, I have one. It might not work that way on an H.

I have an h with live Hyd. And vertical IH
distributor.it is the same as the horizontal one.i obtained parts for mine from joes farmall parts in clarion pa. Hope this helps. Jim

I think I have heard of an aftermarket 90 deg adapter sometime back to help distributor cap clearance against the oil filter housing when using a NON IH live pump????

I do have a spare horizontal distributor and I"ll see if it will fit. Thanks guys. Ill let y"all know how it turns out!

M&W changed things like IH. When distributors instead of mags become more common M&W come out with a live hydraulic kit to use the IH distributor vertical. One for a H drove the distributor at the front side of the pump. Pump lines hooked to rear of pump.

Owen this is the only picture I could find. Looks like a delco in the picture but they made them for IH. Also M&W sold that pump to adapt to any tractor with a SAE ignition drive flange.

IH distributors had different advances for different engines. I do know if you get the wrong one you will never get the engine running right.

I did get a horizontal one on e bay that came from a running M; took mine off, put that one on-set the time and BOOM-fired right up and gave that wonderful M throaty sound-music to the ears!! While it runs great I still wnat to get the vertical one working so I can use the live hydraulic.

Hey guys!! First thanks for all your advice.

Took apart a horizontal distributor from its case. Only difference between the vertical and horizontal is that the gear end is different on the vertical-has to be a helical gear;makes sense. So i took the gear off the old one, put it on the newer one, and yes, it not only fits like a glove, timing is also the same. Now the big test--set it up and make it run!!
