super m-ta paint color

does anyone know if the original color of the radiator, fan shroud, starter and generator was black or red on a Farmall Super M-TA?

My fan shroud is red and the rest are black (good call Rustred - My starter and gen were replaced so they are now black and should be red). Now go buy a book by Guy Fay called "Farmall Letter Series Tractors (Originality Guide)" and you will love it! It tells you all this stuff and even more details. It will even tell you where the decals go.

Here is a link so you know what you are looking for. It wasn't $397 when I bought it more like $30. It was a little pricey but it was a hardcover with a TON of pictures.

Starter and generator may have been black when installed but IH painted those red exept for the tags. Parts of the fan shroud and radiator and even the fan belt were red. Paint most times didn't make a complete covering of the units.

Don't paint the fins on the radiator. They will transfer heat better unpainted.

You don't have to go to extreme lengths to mask off the radiator. A little overspray is perfectly okay, and would be "correct."

The IH painters didn't specifically try to hit the radiator with paint, but they also didn't try to miss it either.
