Farmall H pulling cultipacker

I'm looking to buy a cultipacker and would like some info on how large of one I could pull with my H

We have a 13 foot Brillion from WAY back--crow foot front roller & a set of tines in the middle & a plain roller in back. All the 560 wants in plowed ground.
!066 pulls it in high 2 for finishing pass ahead of the planter.

Brownie, that's a CultiMULCHER.

Cultipacker is just a single row of rollers. Those don't pull too hard. I think an H could pull a 10' packer in 4th gear if the ground isn't too soft.

The two are used fairly interchangeable around here. I suppose a lot of guys wouldn't know or care about the difference between a field cultivator and a soil finisher either.

I would not go over 10', and think that might push it. I can pull a 10' disk with my H. I do not go real deep, and it works it pretty good.

Hey John, I need the cultipacker to press in any seed that is on top and hopefully help with soil erosion. I don't think a cultimulcher is right tool.
Thanks,
Bob

Most modern ones you can lift the spikes up and turn it into a cultipacker.

They are two distinct implements for two different purposes. You can pack with a mulcher by lifting the tines, but you can't mulch with a packer.

Your field cultivator and soil finisher are two names for the same exact implement.

(quoted from post at 11:28:19 02/14/12) We use to pull a 12ft wide "cultimulcher" with a C. Dont have the C but still the the cultimulcher.

That must've been one heckuva C...

Around here you'd need an 856 with duals, minimum, to pull a 12' mulcher, and then you'd only be able to make 3rd Low.

I know, but if he is looking at a modern mulcher it will do it all. Didn't we already establish that???

They aren't the same around here. Soil finishers have a leading disc and cultivators are just sweeps.

Never really pulled a cultipacker by itself with an H or M or W-6. We had an 8 foot double drum Durham we pulled in front of a 3 section springtooth drag or 8 ft. double disk in tandem right after moldboard plowing. We also pulled it behind our grain drill planting oats, wheat, rye, or spelts.
In later years I pulled a 30 ft. single drum over planted beans on no-till ground with a Ford 5000 to punch down stones.

We planted 800 acres of cericial, and I pulled what on here is called a cultimulcher, we called it a culitpacker, 2 rows of "wheels" on it. Id get ya a pic of mine, but currently have no way to do so. I dont know how deep the seed went in the ground, I ddint d oany of that, but for transporting we backed it on a trailer, straped it down, then headed to the next feild. We only used it on our feilds, but we rented it out to tohers over the years.

OK, so it was a cultipacker, with 2 sets of wheels. I guess next week someone will call it something else......Last time this type of topic came of, the pros here called it a cultimulcher!!!

Guys, I hope you're not offended. This is about getting the OP some consistent, useful advice, not being right.

The OP asked about a cultiPACKER for his H.

When you are talking about the tool both he and I know as a cultipacker, there is no way you need a 100+HP tractor to pull it.

Maybe the OP should define what he wants to pull. I have an older 8' and can pull it with my little B7500. Most any 25 hp tractor will pull it.

This is what a cultipacker looks like in my area. It has a hitch on the back that we used to hook a drag style disk to.

Yes that is exactly what I'm talking about. I did locate one off the classifieds, which the working portion is 8'6" that I'm going to look at. After all the feed back I don't think I will have any problems using my H to pull it. Thanks everyone

Are you talking to me???? Yes you can pull that type any where with an H. I pulled the one pictured many times at my Grandads with an H.

The packer alone pulls pretty easy. Now hook it up with an 8' disk and you need more horses.
