Oil pump O-ring between pickup screen tube and cover?

Just picked up my bottom oil pump cover from the machine shop, I had it ground flat. The tech thought maybe it was missing an o-ring on the pickup screen tube where it connects to the bottom oil pump cover. He inserted an 0-ring, said he thought without the o-ring it would be sucking air resulting in lower oil pressure. My concerns are I don't see an o-ring on the Case-IH part diagram. Isn't the screen, tube, and the bottom cover all submerged anyway?

Yes, all submerged. Use that O-ring for something else.
