Hello. I was using my IH 1586 last fall,on my 25ft disk. Something let go,I was lifted off the seat when the tractor stoped. The tractor works fine except I can"t get the tractor to move. I just put the tractor in the shop. I pulled the bottom cover off and looked at the clutch. From what little I saw, nothing looks out of place Can anybody help me in what I should look for in the rear end or point me in the right direction so I find what the problem is. I bought the tractor two years ago and its given me no problem till now. Thank you and have a good day.

...And you're just now thinking of fixing it!Its time to farm!!What were you thinking?!For it to 'heal'itself?Seriously, pull the top link plate off and look inside.Surely, you've got some SERIOUS rear end damage.Like shelled the finaldrive or the differential.

He sure ain't going to see much that way. My best guess is that the diff let go . If he did not find anything in the clutch as if the center had gone then surely he would find a couple spare parts like a damper spring a rivet something. Not going to be a fun job .

My 1486 did the same thing two years ago as my 856 did about ten years ago and both was the spline input shaft that goes into the clutch. Both tractors the splines rounded off. I know I have heard several IH tractors doing that.

You can tell if it ahead or behind transmission by seeing if it will clash gears when shifting with engine running. By shifting both transmissions you can get an idea of how far back or forward it is. Had one quit driving when it tore up the ball bearing on diff out put to reduction gears.

I've heard of some 1486 tractors (among others)
Shearing the ring gear bolts. Lift both rear tires off the ground, without diff lock engaged, spin the tire. The other should turn backwards. This ensures power is transmitted through differential to the other axle. If other wheel does not spin, or you and a buddy can spin the same direction at the same time, I would look at the bolts in the diff or the diff itself. A.P.
