Farmall A Seat

I have a Farmall A with a center pivot type seat with large coil spring and shock, still has Monroe sticker. This seat looks correct but the only I have seen in past have the leaf springs on each side. Did they come both ways? Any idea of year. Can find no tag, casting numbers are 86???

Didn`t come from the factory that way. I`ve seen them changed over to what your describing. The assembly is from an H or M ,I`m thinking.

The Monroe seat is an aftermarket seat. You can find them on most any "color" tractor in the 1940's & 1950's.

Not a factory seat but an after market seat. The factory seat sat on 2 up rights and had 2 springs under the pan. I have both types on my tractors. On my BA I left the factory seat on it but also have a high back after market seat on the parts B I used to build the BA

The original factory seats from the 40 s were little better than a cement block. The after market were far better. First thing I did after war was change the seats.

Yes, that is a "Monroe" aftermarket seat. The Monroe eventually became standard equipment on the Farmall H and M.

Amen to that!

Keep the aftermarket seat unless you're trying to go for a 100% restore.
