I'm thinking about buying this tractor from a older gentleman, he tells me he bought it back in 90s and when he tried to drive it he said it would pop out of gear and he had to open up the top cover and re-align it to get it back in gear.Other than that the tractor has no serious issues other than the usual from sitting outside. Is this a issue that can be fixed without breaking open the case? Thanks Tom

Hi Tom, we had a 434 which has same transmission that would pop out of 2nd gear going down a steep hill with a load on unless you held your hand on the gear shift. This was our loader tractor and 2nd and rev were frequently used. Mechanic said it was a worn detent in one of the shift rails. We never did fix it and later traded it for 384.
Does it pop out of any gear or just one gear?
