The head needed to be shaved when rebuilding with all new valves. Problem now, the rocker arm adjustment ball will not screw up enough to get on some push rods and if you get them on they hold valve open just a little. No telling how many times head shaved down thru years. What can I do? Thanks for help. Buck

How much was removed from the head this last time? I personally wouldn't use washers as they are too uneven in thickness from washer to washer and even around the washer itself.

Mainly need to make sure all are same thickness, might start with .050 inch shim stock, may need thicker if head has been milled a few times.

(quoted from post at 11:47:53 02/10/12) Are you sure they put the right valves in it? IIRC they used three different lengths.

Good point!! Definitely needs to be checked before any modifications are made.

SFLEM849; I'm not sure they put right valves in, but the rebuild shop man had a H and was famillure with these tractors. I did tell him it was for a 39 M and I left the valves and springs in the head so they would have the origional ones to work with. Going to use the washers as shims. This seems the only way to fix it. Thanks all. Buck

Are you sure the pushrods are seated down into the lifters?
