Okay, me n Jimmy have another question (from our daily old farts farm BS session here at the RV park)

He says in addition to the 856 we all know about, IHC made an 856 Special but Im not finding good info or what the difference is CAN ANYONE HELP

Maybe you are thinking 856 CUSTOM?

IIRC the Custom came with 34" rear rubber, one hydraulic remote, one headlight per fender, 6-bolt front hubs with 15" tires, and special CUSTOM badging.

The end result knocked a few hundred dollars off the price of the tractor. They were trying to compete with Deere's budget-minded 4000 if I'm not mistaken.

missing the battery covers.A piece of angleiron
secured the batterys.Steve

I've never heard of a 856 "Special". There was an 856 Custom made. Comparing the Custom 856 to a regular one is like comparing the JD 4000 to a 4020. It was a "budget-minded" version.

I think some of the differences were that the Custom had a smaller fuel tank, single headlight in each fender, single hydraulic remote, no battery covers, single air cleaner element, step and grab handle on TA lever side only, no hydraulic seat, round muffler (like 806), 2pt. hitch, 34 inch (non-wedge lock) wheels, 6 bolt front wheels/hubs, and a few other things to take a few more bucks of of a regular 856's retail price.

My dad has an 865 Custom...im not goin to argue with anyone about the difference bc i dont know, but his has a narrow front end.
