I recently bought this tractor on an auction, I noticed the manifold was different, looks like someone made it but they done a good job. I was wondering what this person was trying to accomplish by doing this. Thanks for any input.

didn't want to spend any money on a new one . the flows on the originals are good enough for 55-60 hp.

I'd guess someone didn't want to spend the money for a new manifold, but instead spent TWICE the money on materials and labor to build something that needs to be thrown on the scrap pile.

Interesting....a metal fabricator put a lot of time/effort into it's construction!

Since it's a "cold" manifold design (there's no hot spot on the intake above the carburetor) it MIGHT be good for an extra HP or two over a stock manifold.

OTOH it will be more problematic running lightly loaded under carb icing conditions (high humidity and temps between about 30 and 50 degF)

Actually that kind of looks like the manifolds we would build for irrigation engines back in the early 1980s.

Either they were trying to avoid buying a new manifold and built their own or found it on an industrial engine.

Does it seem to work OK?

I would like to see the inside of the intake side. It looks like the runners don't match the ports on the head very well and both the runner's and the plemum are to large for the air/fuel charge to have any velocity. Looks home made to me.

my dad did the same thing on his oliver 88 back in the late 70's, he had a total of $15 in making it compared to $200 for a new one at the time. finally bought new manifolds for him 4 years ago even though the other one was still working fine
