farmall bn manifold

Just a general question. I am replacing the manifold. I was wondering since it is off is there anything else I should take care of. I have all new gaskets and was thinking of just a basic carb. rebuild. Is there anything I am missing or should do?

Thanks

Two specific:
Make sure there is no internal cracking in the interface between the Exhaust and intake at the floor of the exhaust plenum.
Using a very flat or machined flat surface, make sure the flanges at the head interface are flat with one another. If more than .002, I would have them machined flat.

You'll notice that the flanges around the holes in the manifold for all but the end studs are cut through. Make sure you're using the right washers under those four nuts in the middle. You'll notice they're thicker than a regular washer and, while they do serve as a washer, their primary purpose is to provide a bearing surface to allow the manifold to expand and contract without disturbing the nut.

Using them will help avoid the kind of cracks in the plenum that JimN described.

And I couldn't think of a better time for at least a good carb cleaning, and a rebuild if needed.
