OS - 6 Power steering

I would like to add power steering to my OS 6. I have a line on a torque generator. Any thoughts on a hydraulic power unit, mounting options and bracket design would be appreciated.

Isn't the OS6 a drag-link style steering like the W6?

Your Farmall-style torque generator wouldn't be a good solution for that. I don't really think it would work at all, in fact.

The power steering on these tractors was an external "helper" cylinder attached to the drag link itself.

The system you have probably will not work. Some combines used a drag link cylinder power steering like used on the W400 through I650 tractors. One of these could probably be adapted to fit and either use a automotive type PS pump or add live hydraulics like the Farmall SM, 400, & 450.

This is what you need for Standard Tread tractors like the OS6. This is a 650 system. Any W400 thru 660 system could be modified to work. The same goes for other makes that use that type of system

Just yesterday I received a backup system (cylinder, linkages, bracket) for my 660. The drag link systems are very rare. It was only the second IH system I have seen on eBay in about 10 years.

Your tractor was not offered with PS. A system off a W400-W450 will be close if not a direct exchange on a OS6.

I think a torque generator would work but it will require some work (machining and welding) and the destruction of the stock IH shaft and column.

I installed a four port hydrostatic steering "hand pump" on a W400 last year because the drag link was in my way for installing a homemade implement. That was a considerable amount of work and a fair amount of money. It also requires a cylinder on the front axle.

OK. I need an education. The OS 6 does have drag link steering as most of you know. Why will the torque generator not work? Won't it simply raise the torque on the steering shaft making it easier to steer? I can see how the booster cylinder system might be preferred but on an older tractor would the torque generator be sufficient and possibly an easier installation? Am I missing something? It would not be the first time.
