the steering on my 706 is funky it clicks when i turn the wheels all the way one way then the other, the font wheel will turn out of aligment, I
have taken the front end off, and disasembled the power steering, other then being worn, i cannot find anything wrong,I have also taken the
front knee spindels out this is a wide front. I
cannot seem to put my finger on whats going on?
I would appreciate any advice the piledriver

If just one front wheel does not return to the correct position, you have tie rod issues. If the issue is with BOTH front wheels, there is something else going on. Could you provide a bit more info?

Now that is a new one on me . The only thiing i can think of is the Knee's are moving in the tube or the thrust bearings are bad on the spindles and it is causing it. as for the steering cylinder sticking if ya had that apart you would see some scoring inside . Now have you checked the center pivot and the yoke ball for movement ??

I have replaced both tie rods and taken out some shims on the pivot yoke, I didnt want any body to think I was nuts but is it possible that the
knee joint is bad and slipping under pressure
and how do i verify this
thanks

Simple way is with a magic marker a line on the knee and a line on the tube .If it moves then your knee is working in the tube and this is the most common . The clamp bolts may seam tight but in the real world the nuts are rusted solid and the clamp is loose and the main axle pin is worn along with the holes .

will do somemore testing on the front end this weekend and hopefully pinpoint it i really
appreciate the input from everbody and will let you know what i find or give more infromation
to everone
thanks

Are you sure the wheel bearings are not dry and shot? I have had them make noise when they turn. Also is the arm in the front end timed right. This would give you an over turn one way and not as short the other.

Is this a wide front Farmall 706 or a International 706. The steering systems are completely different.

Pile Driver, I was surprised to find that know one mentioned checking the steering arm at the top of the spindle. They are often chewed out, slipping on the spindle splines. Replaced many of them years ago. They do have a replacement, or did have,, that replaced the original. That one would tighten further than the original, in case the spindle was worn some. Good luck.
