Super C overhaul

Finally found the timing mark on the C. I have only been looking for it since I got the tractor. It was on the very bottom of the flywheel. I was looking on the face thru the inspection hole. I put the white mark on it so my old worn out eyes can see it now. I spent 30 minutes looking for the pointer next. I finally realized that it is on the back of the front inspection plate that I took off to find the timing mark. Anyway, I have two questions, what do the numbers mean on the timimg mark? DC1-4. I would assume that it is not top dead center, but off one way or the other. Also, what are the seals in the last picture from left to right? I pretty much have the rest of the gaskets in the kit figured out where they go.

Good job on finding the timing mark, and painting it so you can find it again.

That mark is, indeed, for top dead center on #s 1 and 4.

Sorry to say that it"s been so long since I"ve torn down a 113/123 that I don"t recognize all the parts.

To the right of the round gasket in the middle . . . the "duckhead" and the "turtlehead" gaskets, to the right of the gasket in the middle, are to seal up the potmetal block that comes up under the bottom of the shaf at each end of the crankcase. Compare them to the shape of the fit, and you"ll see where they go.

The copper ring looks like one of the crush gaskets for tightening down the valve cover.

I believe #1 from the left is governor output shaft and #4 is the governor input shaft. Not recognizing the round #5. I agree with Scotty on all the others.

It means you can time your engine to either No1 piston near the radiator when it's at TDC on the compression stroke where it's usually timed or you can use No4 piston. The plug wires would need to be moved if the engine was timed on the No4 piston by mistake. Hal

The cork ring in the center looks like a sediment bowl gasket but they are usually not in a gasket set. I don"t think it goes in the engine.

I didn't think it looked big enough for the sediment bowl (hard to telll without a ruler in the picture). Also, I think the sediment bowl gasket has less difference between the ID and OD. I thought it looked about the right diameter for a distributor gasket, but that they were paper rather than cork. I could be totally wrong on all counts.

What brand and part number of gasket set was it?

I will be doing a similar process on a couple of SC's this Spring. Where did you get your overhaul parts (rings, bearings, etc.) and your overhaul gasket set. Were you satisfied with everything you received?

Looks to be in the size range for an oil pan drain, but that should be a copper crush gasket.

And I'm still at a loss for the four on the right. Not to say they aren't out there, but I don't know any kit that has internal bushings/gaskets etc. for a governor as part of a gasket kit -- usually just the paper gasket between the governor housing and block.

Check the governor for usage of the lip seal and the felt seal. The 2 copper gaskets are for the valve cover hold down bolts. Small cork gaskets should fit the corners of the oil pan.
DC 1-4 means top dead center for either #1 or #4 piston and lines up on the vertical "dent" in the flywheel cover.

I brought the kit off this site. You will have to tear the motor down as you have to tell them what size of bearing you want. They also have to have the numbers off the intake and exhaust valves to make sure they send the correct ones. I checked everything before I installed it and it was all right on the money. I would recommend these kits to anyone.

Hal thanks for your reply. Timing an engine to TDC is kind of the new to me. Mine is timed right to that. It has never failed to start or run just fine. The answers from you guys sure make my life easier.

It is a Victor. It has parts listing on the front of the box. It lists 4 parts for the governor, but all it says is seals. The governer is a project for this summer after the leak in the touch control gets fixed.

Buy your bearings from the auto machine shop that
measure's your crankshaft. They won't grind it undersize unless it needs it and they will furnish the correct bearings. Hal
