Super A steering arm assembly

Restoring a super A and needed to replace the steering arm that comes off of the steering box. The one that I'm replacing had been broken and someone had fabricated it to accept regular tie rod ends. The replacement steering arm did not come with all the goodies inside to hold the ball type tie rods in place. What I need to know is what all went inside to hold the tie rods in place and how was it assembled?? The parts book doesn't show much and the I&T manual doesn't help much either. If someone just happened to have one apart and could take pics, that would be great.

Good thought Gene, I forgot about that. Wasn't the square shaft early and the round shaft with a key later? (or do I have that reversed?)

This is a late 1950 model with a tapered round shaft with key where the steering arm attaches to the steering box. Now if you are asking about where the tie rods attach to the steering arm, that has all been farmer fabricated.

I dont remember as its been a while since iv worked on one. But i have rebuilt a bunch of them and have had good results one i do remember tapered shaft and was hard to remove. seems like the early ones had the square shaft as they are hard to get the bolt tight gots to have good wrenches and always use a new gr 8 bolt fine thread. Easier to get tight before installing back on the tractor. Once in a while thats all the play rite there and thats hard to replace the bolt. The round ends i will use a disc sander and gring the high spot using calipers to make sure its round again. Never have found out why when done some are easier to steer than others. I jack the spindles up so the grease can go down as the lube meeds to be at the bottom on the wear surface. Next time i have one apart im going to use a plastic washer for the spindle to ride on as it should lube better that metal on metal. I guess they figured setting in the hot sun the grease would get warm and flow to the bottom.

my 1944 A has the square one, so I am going to assume that square is old style. I used 2 chevy starter shims to fix mine when I had it apart. I agree, that bolt is a bugger to cinch down.

OK, I think that maybe this thread has started down the wrong rabbit trail. What I'm wanting to know is what parts went into the end of the steering arm that is NOT attached to the steering shaft. The end where the round tie rod ends go into. I believe there are some concave discs that go in there and you tighten everything down with the large straight slotted plug that goes in one end. I'm needing to know what parts are needed that go inside this end and in what order, as the replacement arm I purchased did not have any of this in it. Thanks

yes, there is a 2 sided dished disk that goes between the 2 tie rod ends, and then there is a 1 sided dished disk that goes in front of the adjuster.

Burgh's shoudl have them or they still might be available from the dealer.
