Taking apart an air cleaner

I needed to clean sand out of the inside of the air cleaner body on an H. Here's a pic after the bottom screen and retainer have been removed.

At least that one looks like it has the stacked screen pieces. The later ones have what look like steel wool rolls of toilet paper can be a pain to put back together if you have to unroll them to clean them.

Are you going to be able to get all the sand out? Best of luck. Please keep us updated. I used to sand blast implements and some tractor parts but drew the line at the main tractor and would never sand blast an air cleaner. Also would not blast corn pickers, combines, shellers etc. Too much liability and chances for something to go wrong. Armand

Shouldn't be to hard to get the sand out if you got this far. Might need to lengthen 2 dental picks or o-ring picks or something to grab the screens and pull them all out (one at a time). If the housing is undamaged and the screens aren't packed with goo, they should come out with little effort. Soak/wash screens and housing, reassemble, and braze, solder, or spot weld the retainer back in. Pop rivets or screws might work too if the bowl will clear them.
