Update on Farmall H Steering Post dent

After getting 3 different steering posts with a dent on the back side I thought maybe they were supposed to be there, I think Nebraska Cowman and D Slater said it was for gas tank clearance.
Yep, the dent matches perfectly to the gas tank seam, I could see a tractor running rough and the tank and post bumping against each other and making quite a racket.

I have 2 H TRACTORS the steering posts BOTH have dents for the gas tank not to rub.

When I put my H back together, I thought the gas tank would barely fit, and thought previous owner had made the dent so it would fit. It was still a tight fit, so I put lock-washers under the front two bolt holes, under the post pedestal, and that tilted the post back just a bit. Fits fine.

I started to question this several years ago when a customer wanted a steering post and I could not find one that was not dimpled.
