Problem with 340 IH Utility - Gas

My gas utility starts and runs normally for about 15 - 20 minutes. Then, every time you advance the throttle it putts and sputters as the engine rpms come up then it runs normally. It is not smoking at the exhaust when this happens. The longer it runs, the worse this condition becomes. I have run about 2 gallons of gas out of the supply line and it flows fine. I've adjusted the carb floats up to keep more gas in the bowl. I added a bottle of dry gas to the tank, no help. I'm out of ideas.

Sounds like trash in fuel lines to me .
Check filter screen at inlet of carb .
Check float levels of carb .Maybe time for a carb rebuild .
Check timing !

That kind of leaning in operation can be a sign of an intake manifold leak that widens as it gets to temperature. Use a propane tank with the end nozzle off (pure propane) with a modest flow like it was a small flame if it was together. while it is running (outside) put the propane source near the exterior of the intake manifold at the head and the carb to manifold connection. If it runs faster at any spot, it is likely leaking there.
A second issue to check is the ignition coil. If it is getting so hot you can't touch it when it is doing it, put a new one on it. Jim

Everytime I have what seems to be a fuel related problem it is time to clean up the ignition points and check the timing.

Couldnt agree more. My 504 utilty acted the sameway for about 6 months until it died outright in the driveway this fall. The points were shot.
