1953 louisville super m

Looked at a 53 stage 2 had power steering battery under seat and all stage 2 options but did NOT have live hydro. How common are these tractors? Serial # L507219 DJ.

I have read that Louisville SMs were common to not have live hydraulics. We also have one L507403J, stage II ps, no live power.

Don't know what percent there is. Had 2 stage 2 Louisville in my lifetime. One had LH and one didn't. Out of 4 farmall stage 2, one didn't come with the live hydraulic attachment.
Noticed several stage 2 tractors without live hydraulic here and there also.
Don't know if there's anything to it but some say more of the tractors without extras were sold in the south.

Probably more common than one thinks. My Dad and a neighbor each bought one new. L506056J and L506060J. Came to the dealer on the same train car. The neighbor later traded his in and Dad bought it. Both had power steering added and an M&W power kit over the years. I sold the neighbor's to his daughter about five years ago and Dad's went to Florida last year to retire. 8)

Might be wide variation in popularity based on regional factors. In northern IN, all but one i was around or looked at had the Live system, as did the SH stage II. Jim

The guy has a complete 54 stage 2 super h good rubber straight metal but it is stuck. Would be a nice tractor to restore just needs to be freed up and paint. I would get it but I really like the super m, I think that m would look good setting next to my md lol. He wants to sell the super h his son told me 1500 obo, way to high in my opinion I might do 800 just because it is 100% complete.

thanks jim, i think i saw that one on craigslist, i wish it was closer to me in new england. there isnt to much left up this way.

Help me out here.

In order to get a STAGE 2 WITH OUT the live pump,it would have had to been ordered "Live pump delete" wouldnt it ????

Kinda strange

I can be corrected (often am) but IH may have used up materials and components as they emptied the pallets they had at hand. It was not a ""model"" change, it was a roll out of modifications in the works. Many such were common, from disk brakes on late 52 Hs, to pancake lights in 53. But from that point on they would be building Live Hydro Delete tractors if they were ordered. Jim

Mine is a 1953 louisville WITH live hydraulics,so I am thinking it is a Late 53???

I have seen alot of 52s that were not Live Hydraulics.

Both types of hydraulic were a attachment. For stage 2 SM the belley pump attachment was given a new part # and the parts to drive it from the counter shaft were added to the attachment.
Stage 2 SM standard parts for the front of the transmission counter shaft was a washer and self locking nut in place of the pump drive dog nut. Cover was used over that to seal opening and retain the front countershaft bearing. New belley pump attachment for stage 2 tractors included the pump drive parts, oil seal and retainer housing. If a dealer ordered a SM and didn't say what hydraulics were wanted I don't know how IH decided to equip them.
