Ever Seen a Tractor Like This?

Just saw this on Ebay.
It's a Farmall F12 with a V8 Ford Funk Conversion? I saw this and thought, what the heck is that? Is it a joke or was it really a conversion you could do?

I couldn't find it on eBay. You really should post a link. It's a good thing you are not trying to sell it.

despite the DEMANDS to post,, and some NICE person posted it for them ,,,even though you only asked a question,,for your answer, yes, funks have been done for a while, there was a company that sold conversion kits to put flatheads/modern v-8 in popular 2-8-9n tractors,[closed/out of business],,,,like car lovers/racers that put other motors in different brand cars [e.g.street rods],,,it can be done in a tractor also...like the saying goes, if you got the money, anything is possible..

Funk never made a conversion kit for the F12, only for Ford N tractors. Slapping a flat head in a tractor does not mean its a Funk conversion, but the Funk products bring good money so the seller is trying to find a sucker or is just ignorant as to what he has.

But it is from a smoke free home thats gotta be worth something there. :D

Looks like something someone set up to use as a yard ornament instead of as a serious tractor. It looks to be missing several critical components and the ad even says it has no radiator, plus the front wheels are setup for rubber, thus it is not all on steel like the ad claims. Like 36F30 said, I don't think they have a clue about what they actually have there and were just trying to cash in on the Funk name.

I absolutely agree with what has been posted. On the lighter side, each set of rear steels might be worth around $300 each here in PA. The flathead V-8 is becoming harder to find, so that is another $300. Still some parts left on the old girl add another $300. Scrap what is left, maybe around $150.

Add it up? $600 for wheels, $300 for engine, $300 for parts, $150 for scrap = $1350 MAX! If you are willing to part it out.

As an F-14 it is worth $0. As a Funk conversion, it is worth $0.

IMHO.

I think you nailed it pretty good.
Funk is still in business and I believe either owned by JD, or associated with them in some manner... they build JD transmissions in Coffeyville, KS and I think they still build other gearboxes.

"despite the DEMANDS to post,, and some NICE person posted it for them ,,,"

I am the nice guy who posted the ad.
I have NO conection to the seller or the ad.
I got a laugh out of it when I saw it and thought others would also. Just wanted to know if it was real or a joke?
I was doing a search for F12 parts and came across the ad and got a laugh out of it.
Again, not trying to profit by posting this.

as a parting note, it would be fun to actually run it. Not enough fun to acutally motive me to buy it and certainly not a the BIN price.

I wish I still had my 68 RS Camaro!
I sold it when I built my house. Maroon, 327, 4 speed car. Wish I had it back :(

My retired neighbor/helper put a ford v-8 in an f20 back years ago when he was in high school. Why I don't know but then again if you like to wrench it's entertainment I guess.

I am not on this board much but I can tell you exactly why they were done. The tractor engines getting wore out, then having to hand crank as the owners had fought the cranks way too much and the engines were avaible cheap and easy to install, you needed to use the car clutch and tranney as well in low gear, that enabled you to run the engine at the speed for it and still keep the gearing of the tractor and it was a lot cheaper than buying a new SM or 400 yet they then pulled the same loads the SM or 400 would pull instead of the 2 bottom plow that the F 20 pulled and 3 bottoms or 4 bottoms they got a lot more work done, A lot of them were like that in my area and the F 30 they put larger engines like the big Chryslers in them and then pulled 5 bottom plows. And at that time try pricing a 5 plow tractor and pricing the conversions and at the difference when you did not have the money to buy a new large tractor that is the way you went. They would use more fuel than the new big tractors but with fuel prices at thet time it was no big deal. The work they wood do was.

I read the post several times. It may be an honest listing. It says "Funk v-8 Conversion Engine." Not Funk converted F-14. Maybe someone put a Funk engine in the F-14. Like when the 8N it used to be in grenaded the rear end.
