Fender questions

I am picking up a set of fenders for my H this weekend and I have a couple questions. First off i've seen some spacers that look like the mount to keep the fender off of the axle mounting area? These look like pieces of pipe that raise it maybe 1/2 in to an inch? Is that right? Also should I look for a extension mount to move the fenders out and give myself some more space? Thanks as always,
-Keith

I havea set of off-branded fenders for my H. Not sure where I got them, or what they"re for. Had some brackets welded up to hold them outboard, about 4" or so from the tires. They sit just above the outboard grease fitting. Point is, it is still a tight fit, to climb past them and onto the seat. The good part is, they sit in the ideal spot to hold onto as you drive. They"re just exactly at arms length.
I recently cut them down, and welded 1" EMT electrical tubing around the top to make them home-made clam-shells. I"d send a picture if I could.

Yea,I HIGHLY reccomend them if you want to run fenders.

You can buy them original on EBAY with the plates and the small tubing spacers.(See them all the time.)Or you can make your own fairly easy.I have my fender plates sitting on 1" spacers.I have the plates extending out to just barely short of the grease zerk on the axle,so I can still get to it.

I reccomend getting the fender extensions out t

There are tons of places you can purchase the spacer and bracket kits. This site. Steiners. OEM Tractor Parts. Any A&I dealer. To name a few.

You are correct, the spacers are essentially short bits of pipe, actually structural tubing. The brackets are just flat plates with 10 holes drilled in them. Both would be pretty simple to make with a chop saw and a drill press. You can even make custom spacers to raise the fenders higher if you want, and custom length brackets to put the fenders exactly where you want them.

For youse SD guys I have a nice set of Farmall fenders prepped for paint, b;asted, washed, epoxy primered filled and primed. May 1 hour final prep for your specific paint. Pickup in Mitchell.
