Im helping some friends with a Cub, first it was fitted with a 10SI alt. (Yes it fit) Where the plug onthe side is, someone has connected the two wires together, ran it back to the switch side of the resistor, and of course the batt terminal to the gauge then back to starter. Second, I need to verify the guage is working before going further, can this thing be wired up as a one wire temporarily?

Next question, the throttle doesnt move, found the little pivot point the throttle rod connects to is froze.Refresh my memory, is this just a pivot point, or does it accually do something INSIDE the gov.

Can't help you with the Alt wiring, but the little arm for the throttle mounted to the side of the governor should move. Spray down with penetrant and work back and forth to free it up.

I know its suppose to move, but dont remember if its
just the peice that moves, or if it accually moved
something inside other than moving the spring. Im
pretty sure it just acts as a lever for the spring.
right, as in if the spring was broke or off, and
this peice moves, nothing happens, right? Its been
some tears since Ive worked on my Cub, I dont
recall.

for the alt wireing.. it would be better to jump #2 to the charge stud, and #1 to an isolated power source that can't backfeed the ignition.. like thru a 194 lamp or diode.

if has an amp. meter, current goes from alt to guage on one post and then on the other post on toward bat. if it has a volt meter one side goes to alt. battery wire and the other post is grounded. if they didn,t change the posts on guage from 6 volt pos. ground it will probably show discharge. a cheap diode in line to incite alt. i think is better than a on wire setup.

John,
You'll find almost anything you need to know about Cubs at this site. http://www.farmallcub.com

I'm no Cub expert, but I do know from working on my Cub, when the throttle lever is moved forward, a lever on the governor with a spring attached to it rotates which then causes the governor to move a rockshaft linkage connected to the carb. and you have more throttle.

Yes, I know, and thats the way I intend to put it back, but I want ot double check the gauge, which Im sure is not working, before I pull the tank support.
