I am helping a friend of mine work on a 47-48 H. Will a carb off of a Farmall M work on an H? Will it give it any more power? I am a Deere guy and I know an A carb on a B will give it a little more pop due to the bigger jets and etc.

Thanks, Walton

From my limited understanding an M carb will not work well on an H engine that is otherwise stock, since the H carb gives it as much gas as it is able to use effectively. Once you start making modifications to the engine anything is possible given enough time and money.

The M carb will not bolt up to the H manifold without modifying either the carb or the manifold, and then you still have the small diameter intake throat on the manifold that will not match up to the throat on the M carb. Only to make it work right is to install a manifold for a Super H, 300, or 350, and then you still won't get anymore power unless you have made some serious modifications to the engine.

There are alot of ifs and kinda-aortas here. If you have a replacement manifold for the H, Super H, 300, 350 it will bolt up. As rusty said it will not bolt to the OE manifold. Will the M carb work on the H, it will run it, but will it give it more power no way, wrong internals, jets, venturi etc, you will lose low end torque most notably. Note if you have that engine blown out to 200+ cubes then it will work better then the H carb.
