Super M shift lever

Is the shift lever supposed to be lined up with the end that fits into the sliders? Reason I ask is that when I push it straight ahead for second I get fourth, meaning the lever is twisted to the left. No problem with shifting, but after years of shifting in that pattern with other tractors it seems wrong. Tractor is disassembled, including lever and trans cover. There is a bushing over the place someone could have welded, not eager to move the bushing as it will be damaged if moved. Tractor has battery under the seat, may have something to do with the lever hitting the seat. -- The earlier shifter has a different part number. Seems like someone posted about this earlier.

Top of lever on a stage 2 is more to left than some others. If I remember correct 5th is close to center line of the shift housing on the top cover.

Thanks. If it is correct I will leave it alone. I thought that someone may have broken it (how, I can't imagine) and welded it crooked. I suppose this was to avoid hitting the seat on the Stage 2?

Charles I went out to look. When that ones in 5th the top of shift lever is close to in line with seat frame left side where the bolt goes through it to the bushing pivoit pin.
