Putting duals on 400/450

Is there room to use two hubs and associated double humped rims to dual a 400/450 or would one need to use M style hubs and wheels?

Figured I'd ask before doing the cut and try method!

When Farmers first started putting duals on farmalls they would narrow up the orginal tires by dishing them in and than take the rear tires and cast centers from another tractor and slide them onto the axel dished out. It was a tight fit but could be done. From there local blacksmiths would start making clamp-on rims than companys like M & W started making axel hubs and spacers so the duals could straddle a row than the tractor builders came out with extended axel options. I used a set of 9 bolt hubs off of a Massey-Harris 44 and a set of spacers to put duals on my 400. the main wheel has to be slid almost all the way in for the second set of hubs to fit on the axle, and I needed the spacers because I'm on 36" rows.

I believe the 400/450 axles are LONGER like a Super M,Arnt they CenTex???

If that is the case,I am with Armand. If the inner cast center is turned in,and the outer cast center was turned out,I believe they will go on,(UNLESS you got some OVERLY sized tires on your rims?)

Might not be relevant, but on this Super H(has longer axles than H) these duals were the original cast centers, and worked fine.

If you've got enough axle to install two hubs, it will work.

You will have to dish the inner wheel in, and install the rim on the outer bevel. Then add the outer wheel with the rim on the inner bevel.

Thanks for the replies. I"ve seen it in person with the earlier type centers. Just wasn"t sure it would go the same with the later stuff as I haven"t seen one done that way. I know a tape measure would work, but it"s easier to ask and see if there may be other problems not foreseen.

I just know some axles can and some can't in the same exact models. I know my MD will with an inch to spare. I also got to thinking with the double bevel rims you might have more space between the tires. If so that would be a good thing. The Ms that are dualed up look like they would pack full pretty bad.

I didn't know if there would be clearance issues between tractor and tire with the wider rims. I have a 400lp with the "correct" wheels and rims and 14.9 tires and a non-running 450lp with the same wheels and tires.

What I want to do is put duals and a heavy front blade on a tractor and use it to help clear some overgrown land. I also have a basket case 400lp that I would do this on as the sheet metal is junk and the motor is stuck and third gear is out in a bad way. I could resurrect the poor thing and build a heavy front end for it and use it instead of beating up the nicer machines.
