hi i just bought a 42 farmall h tractor...The serial tag reads FBH ppmh170825....I have never seen letter"s stamped in front of the serial number like this before...(not sure what ppmh means) I did post a pic of the tag...Any one have any idea what it means...I thought maybe it was owned by a school or organization but I did not think they would stamp an old tractor......Was just wondering if anyone had any input...Thanks for reading and appreciate any info....

HMMMM.... That is interesting. What does the engine run on? The reason I ask is that the tag doesn't have the common suffixes either (X1...etc.). "PPMH" doesn't look like it was done at a factory as well. It looks done by hand, judging by the letter orientation and the dented tag.

Can't say why the extra letters are stamped. Looks like the # 1 also maybe stamped later. If so it would be a 41 model. If the # 1 is original its newer than a 42 model.
Looked at the picture agian and changed my mind. # 1 may be the factory stamp. That would make it a 44 model. If the engine is original the tractor serial # would be on it to double check.

Tag is dented in pretty bad which says to me its not factory. Also type doesn t seem to match with any I have personally seen. Could be farmers kids initials ? Kid was messing around with the letter stamps? Or maybe a dealer mechanic initials or code for some repair or modifications? Interesting .....

Thanks for the reply"s I figured it was maybe a school or a mechanic would make more sense...I know tractor runs great very quiet with no smoke or funny noises....it is a distillate model has 2 tanks and also the flapper on the manifold to open close it for cold start.....tractor does have live hydraulics which is odd for the year ( i think ) and looks factory plumbed....yes the PPMH is definantly not factory with it being dented....the # 1 however is factory....for all I know could have been the farmers kids out there with the hammer and stamps pounding away, maybe thinking it would be alot easier to find if pops ever sold it one day....always a possibility...I had many tractors in the past and never saw anything stamped on a tag before...if i find anything out i will try and post it....thanks again

The 1 looks original for sure..I thought it was a 44 aswell but one of these sites tell me it's a 42.....tractor data and tractorshed give me 2 different years when I look at the serial #....the engine block number matches the tag number...thanks for the info...

The 1 appears to be original, thus making the tractor a 1944. The "PPMH" appears to be applied by someone else. Google around and didn't find much about these letters.

The 1 looks original to me which makes it a 1944. The reason there is no suffix stamped is that it is a distilate tractor and distilate was the standard tractor at the time. If it was a gasoline tractor it would have had x1 stamped.
The extra letters were stamped by someone, possably owner or mechanic, at some later time.
