350 Utility problems???

My son purchased a 350 Utility recently. Great tractor and runs like a champ. normally starts in about 2 seconds. He went to start it this morning and nothing, will not turn over. Checked all electrical connections. Recent new battery and cables in place. Pulled starter and spins like it should. Tried to rotate the ring gear, no luck. Thinking clutch is stuck but, we tried pulling and will not move at all. Jacked up rear wheels and can not turn. Engage PTO and turns with some resistance, however engine does no turn over. I know tractors, this has us stumped.
Any one want to share their thoughts?
Thanks in advance.....

Is it colder now than it was before outside? My H did that when it was new to me a couple of years ago and it was just that the water in the transmission had frozen. Once I thawed it and changed the gear oil it was fine. Just a thought.

Spot on with your observation.
It appears the trans fluid is a combination of oil and ice. Warming up here tomorrow to 45*, once thawed we'll drain ALL fluids and hopefully that's the end of that problem.

I will add that the engine being stuck is not (in my opinion) related to the tractor not moving. The engine should turn and start and run even if the trans is frozen. With the clutch blocked down (put a short piece of 2X4 under the left foot plate), try moving the ring gear or starting it. If water got in the engine it could be solid as well. If it will not turn with the clutch down, I would pull the spark plugs and look inside with a good LED light to see if there is ice in the cylinder. Thawing it is a good idea, then rotating to get the water out. Jim

Had a similar issue with my H last year. It ran just fine when parked, but next day it turned all of 1/4 turn and locked up solid, (hand crank only at the time). I could stick a pry bar into the starter hole and turn it back about that same 1/4 turn, then same thing again, stuck. Stumped, too. Then, I decided to pull all items off engine that could come off easy enough, till I either had a bare block sitting in the frame or had found my issue. When I pulled the governor off, surprise! It then turned over easy as pie! Opening up the gov showed the problem, one of the pins that hold the fly weights in had finally broken on one end and slid out just enough that it and the weight both hit the bottom of the housing and locked the engine tighter then a drum, especially since I was just hand cranking it. If it would have been electric start, it may have just broken off who knows what inside the gov, then started anyway, but I think I would have detected something was amiss when a rod came through the side of the block at about 5000 RPM! Just goes to show you, on these machines, no matter the color, they are all O-L-D and anything is subject to breaking, so rule out nothing until it has been checked.
