IH 504 hydraulic issues.

I have a IH 504 with power steering and no three point hitch. Someone added a homemade three point some years back and did a good job of it. They used a two way cylinder to lift the hitch via the remote valve. Problem is the cylinder has little power on the up stroke. I can lift it at high idle, but if I stand on it, it immiedatly leaks back down quick. When valve is in neutral it holds solid. Cylinder is new. Power steering works great. Rebuilt spool valve already. Could it be the pump, or the split valve for the remotes/power steering ?
Thanks.

new problem?
you may have to cycle the cylinder fully up and down a few times to clear the air from it.

I just bought the tractor and it was a preexisting condition. When I operate the lever, there is absolutely no load on the engine. When I turn the steering wheel, it labors the motor.

International or Farmall makes some difference.
i'm not familiar with the non 3 point models but my guess is there is only one pump inside the center housing that feeds the power steering and then the remotes. The first step should be a pressure gauge plugged into the quick coupler(s).
A good guess would be the priority valve that allows fulltime power steering pressure is malfunctioning. It's also possible the relief valve for the remote valves is stuck open or just broken. if you have more than one remote pair, make sure you have the correct combination of hoses paired to the couplers and then see if the behavior is only with one valve or if it is on all of them.
look for check valves or restrictor valves between the cylinder and the couplers that could be screwed up too.

Thanks Karl. I only have 1 remote valve on this tractor. I will look at the priority valve. Where is the relief valve for the remotes that you mentioned ? I really appreciate it !!

I can't say for sure since you do not have the factory three point. But on a Farmall model with 3 point, to the right of the seat as you are sitting in it, down by the remote valve, sandwitched between the remote valve and the lift cylinder housing (raised smaller rear end cover casting that seat mounts to), there is an adaptor plate.
stand on the drawbar and look at this plate, there will be about a 1 inch hex head pointing at you on the top side of this plate.
probably different on non 3 point model, likely similar?
I don't have time to check the parts site at the moment, but you could try yourself. caseih.com "parts and service" then click on something to the effect of "look up parts" and then you can type in your model. don't use the online parts store, it's not so handy for research purposes.

my email is open too
