Read your post about welding...go buy a welder, gather some scrap iron,buy/read a welding book and get after it!Ask a friend who welds to help you get started(thats what I did).I didnt learn to weld till I was in my late 20s,since then I've welded professionally. You CAN do it!! Steve

thanks for the kind inspirational words.

My uncle had the same idea and bought a 110v stick and a wirefeed for the farm about 15 years ago, to learn on his own, but they blew every breaker.

when I have the opportunity for my own place, a workspace for me with proper wiring will be part of the plan. Right now my budget dictates I rent an apartment in town and visit the farm a few times a week. I'm lucky my wife understands and lets me get out there to get fresh air and not feel trapped by the small space.

I did the same thing. My dad got me a welder about 4 years ago for Christmas and I learned from there. I read on here, Googled stuff, and watched Youtube videos. If you want a cheap but reliable welder try Harbor Frieght. Some people run at that name. My welder is awesome. It's a 90 amp flux core. They go on sale a lot. Usually around $100 -$110. And there automatic darkening helmet is awesome. $40 -$50 and it is almost a must if you wanna weld. I am not the best walter but I have learned on my own and haven't had to pay a whole lot for my stuff. If you have any questions my email is open through here. -Keith

Do yurselves a favor and buy a 220 machine. Those little 110 machines are good for popcans and bicycles and not much else-BTDT.Find a Lincoln'tombstone'or similar. They are a good starter machine that will serve you well for years.
