I am trying to remove the shaft for the belt drive on my WD-9 to replace the leaking shaft oil seal. Can anyone provide direction on how to pull the main output shaft (the one connected to the pulley drive? Item 41 on the attached image is the seal that I attempting to replace.

Take the bolts out from the bearing flange that bolts to the housing behind the pulley. That will let the whole shaft slide out and then you"ll be able to remove the gear on the other end and get to the seal. Make sure you install all the shims that are between the flange and the housing when you put it back together.

Do you have all the bolts out the long ones on top
next to the lever? They may not come all the way out
but one of those bolts will not let it out of the
casting(will not clear the drive gear #36).

I have the all the bolts out and the gearbox removed from the tractor. I am not sure it was necessary to remove it.

I pulled the bolts and covers off both end (Items 1 & 24) and the shaft does not seem to pull out. Is there something else that I am missing?

How about the long bolt (about6"long)on top if you
loosen them and try to pull them out the bolts will
hit the fuel tank. But getting them free and loose
and tilted is enough to pull out shaft assembly. That
is what I had to do..give me a call if you have any
further problems...Tom 651-22six-one103.

You did not have to do that...When you put whole
unit back in make sure you put the longest bolt in
in the casting...Because you wont be able to get it
in after unit is set in place....bolt will hit fuel
tank..

Okay, so I now have the shaft removed. Next question, how do I get to the shaft seal? I believe I need to remove the two bolts on the end and the gear. Is the gear pressed on? Do I need to use a puller? If so, will I be able to get it back on without a press (which I lack)? Any other advice on how to get to the seal is appreciated.

I removed the two bolts and the end cap, but there is a key slot on the gear. Is that pressed on? I tried using my two jaw pulled to remove it, but it won't grab on the gear as the lip is beveled. I do not want to start using the bearing to pull on it and risk damaging it. Any help is appreciated!

Once the gear is off, should everything else slide off? Are the bearings pressed on?

Gear should pull fairly easy. Try a hardwood block and hammer.

So I have been able to successfully remove the gear, bearings and spacer. It appears now that I also need to replace the felt washer (P/N 60255D) and bearing retainer gasket (P/N 60254D). CNH does not have these available any more. Does anyone know where one might find these two pieces?
