1955 300u Hydraulic pump noise and slow moving cylinders

my 1955 300u has front end loader it make noise like sucking air for half a second after i move any function up down dump tilt back or up down fast hitch or if i rev up engine it also seem like there air in hyd. cylinders my loader has up power only single acting lift cylinders.the steel hyd pipes that run from pump to tank has a crack on the small pipe ive had it braze welded 3 times it all ways brakes i would like to buy non-broke pipes thanks

There are only salvage pipes available It is certainly OK to adapt the steel pipes to Suction and pressure hose to make it work well. The suction tube is probably cracked or has a leaking gasket letting air into the system. Replacing the section of damaged steel line is also OK if the welds are certifiable, and as good or better than original.
I would have the manifold plate at the pump drilled and tapped for fittings to allow rubber hoses to be utilized. I believe 3000psi hose on the pressure side and suction hose on the intake side are fine. Jim

Hi, many years ago when we had a 300U and when the hydraulics started making noise, it was time to clean the suction filter in the hydraulic reservoir under the seat.

Hello Windhill: One of my 350s had developed a small air leak on the suction side about foot & half back from the pump. I noticed a small vibration now & then for a couple years and then it got worse. I finally noticed a small leak had developed about a foot and half back from the pump on the suction side. Dern small hole but I guess enough air was sucked in to create a noise. Replaced 2 foot of that steel line with a factory hose. The 300 and 350 used both all steel and some with partial rubber lines. I'll guess they had complaints back then so the factory made changes. I noticed the system worked a lot better right after all air got taken out. I guess I was acustom to having fluid leak out so I didn't consider air sucked in right away. Always something different to cause problems...
