farmall md fuel systems

Back to my post from yesterday, what needs to. Be done to make sure the drain cock is properly seated? Also the fuel shut off on the diesel tank leaks (drips) when it is open or closed any cures for that? I've only had the tractor about 2 years now so any info is greatly appreciated I still have alot to learn about this thing. Thanks jim.

You can get packing material at Menards etc an repack the diesel shutoff. I have never done it, but it sounds pretty easy. Screw off the hex nut and wrap the stuff around then put it back on is the basic story. You can try tightening the hex nut. That will stop it for a while.

When you say drain cock you are talking about the drain valve in the bottom of the carb? Did you use any thread sealer on it? Is the cast Al cracked? IIRC it is a pipe thread fitting not a flage/oring/gasket type fitting.

When I got my MD, someone had installed a fuel bowl on the diesel tank. I don't know if they did that to correct the problem you are describing or not. My tractor runs just fine with that setup. YOu might consider it if all else fails. The one drawback is that your fuel line will probably not line up with the fuel bowl fitting. Mine was cut off a few inches and replace with a rubber hose. Certainly not factory, but it's never been a problem. As for the carb drain, something as simple as teflon tape might fix it, or try anerobic sealant (available at NAPA). That stuff really does work wonders on hard to stop leaks.
