C 3pt hitch

while working on the H, I had time between mixing paint and hanging aprts to dry to start dragging out scrap for my 3pt hitch for the C.

think I have enough done, and have a plan now on how to fab it.

may mock it up tomorrow.

rockshaft.

also.. had been thinking of only using a connector rod from one side.. to actuate another rockshaft.. but MAY use a link on both sides to distribuite the load.

i know it will kinds frame in the operator.. but heck.. I don't plan on using a 3pt full time.. just when needed. side links can be removed when not needed and3pt arms folded up when not in use..

I will be interested in your 3 point project. I've daydreamed about such a project. Mine would mimic the 06, 56, etc. in concept to retain the factory swinging drawbar. I would utilize the existing drawbar support holes in the rear end and fabricate a new drawbar support heavy enough to handle cat 1 anchor pin loads. The lift arms would be sourced from a newer model from the same line (240). Some of the remaining parts would have to be fabricated but many would be found at farm stores.
There's an ISO and ASAE standards pdf that I came across a few years ago, it's typically subscription only access. They cover dimensions you'd never think of. I looked into many of the dimensions they suggest, and common sense with the basic 26, 32, etc spacing will get you in the ballpark anyway. Besides you have old Fords to compare to :)

ps the dimensions include such things as proper angle to the front wheels from the top link and the angle of the lower hitch points forward to a center point on the front axle.

mine likely won't be proper, but the arms will fit a 11 hole drawbar, and they will move up and down.. :)

i bought a c that had the top link rig up where the belt pulley went it had a piece of 3/8 plate steel cut out for the four bolt holes and for the gear that would drive the belt pulley and a piece of pipe that was bigger than the gear and was welded to the plate and capped off then it had two pieces of 3/8 flat bar welded to the pipe for the top link pin to hook to

mine's almost identical. the belt pulley has been deleted and capped with flat and pipe like you mention!

Around 10 yrs ago I purchased a 3 pt for my C which never was right. Geometry was all wrong, and I had to remove the factory drawbar, and the two arms for the rockshafts flexed badly when placing any down pressure on it. I ended up replacing both with one length of chain which believe it or not helped, but I ended up selling the setup. However, using a length of chain lets you test for proper length before you fab the arm to the rockshaft - I would likely use solid rod of some sort or square tubing. That length is pretty critical or it will either not raise enough or not low enough. I saw one home built rig and the lower arms were just TSC arms connecting by replacing the lower rear bolts where the factory hitch bolts on. That one looked very good, almost as if it was factory built, and I wish I would have had a camera to take a photo of the setup.

Sometimes function is more than enough :)

I like clean installs though. Don't like getting hung up on stuff in the way. My dad is 70 now and I'm more sensitive to his needs--some days just climbing onto a plain letter series can be too much for him (he's stubborn though). I have thought about replacing the seat box with a lift cylinder, rockshaft, and arms. It would be cool if something original IH could be made to work, such as a Cub's touch control box--especially since it has position control like more contemporary tractors--but I think the cylinder size may be a weak point in this case to make the geometry and function standard.

Another IH parts option would be to see what the French C relative had but those parts are not common here. Would probably end up making something

Have fun

i hear ya on critical length.

I'm not interested in using m=ine for down pressure, so went with some half inch rebar I found at work, for lift only.

am using 2 old 8n lift arms I think. I have some shorter ones off a jap tractor.. but the 8n arms I'll try first..
