How do you guy feel about the new type head gasket verse the old style. I have always been told the metal plated ones are better. Lets hear it! oldiron29
 
the new ones with steel on both faces are junk. i have yet to get one to completely seal, even with some shellac.

I get mine from Alderson tractor in Iowa. Ive used their style for a few years now and once they get torqued down, not a single problem at all. Theres is an original style with no metal on the outside.

If at all possible, I prefer the old style metal type head gaskets. I've used both, but the new style ones are much thinner and don't have a fire ring around the cylinder. I put a new style on my 15-30 and it was so much thinner, I had to put washers under the rocker arm pedestals in order to get the proper valve clearance. Without the fire ring I can't imagine the new ones would hold up as long under heavy use. I've never had any trouble with leakage with any of them. I always coat them with copper spray-a-gasket.
 
I started with the NOS gaskets when I restored my F30 over 10 years ago. After having the head off 5 times because I couldn't get it to seal, I went with the "new" style gasket. No more leaks. I would not use a metal gasket again.
