No.8 plow weed hook

I recently got a No.8 plow and have started the (slow) process of repair/restoration. There is the remains of a bracket attached to the beam near the tail wheel assembly. It looks like what the parts listing calls a "weed hook" (#PO9772).
What is a weed hook? What is it supposed to do? Anyone have a picture of one installed?

Learn something new every day. See if the link will help. Did it look like the picture. I can tell you it would be completely optional.
Weed Hook

If the sunflowers had grown up in the wheat straw the weed stalks would keep the dirt from turning completely over. We would then use one or two heavy, galvanized wires attached to the frame, a few feet in front of the share, in such a manner it would pull the stalks down. We would "borrow" Mom's clothesline for a while. The trick was to make the wire long enough that it would be buried for several feet past the share. This would put a "pull" on the wire, making it tight enough to pull the stalks down flat. We never knew they actually made a "weed hook". Dad wouldn't have bought it anyway as Mom's clothesline was cheaper.

Thanks, that explains quite a bit. I suspected that was what is was intended for, but exactly how it worked puzzled me. The one on my plow is broken off at the clamp, so exactly what it looked like or how it was oriented cannot be determined. However, with the picture in the parts listing and the photos of the Dearborn weed hooks, I think I can replicate it well enough.
Thanks, again.

Dad had one on a Case plow, which was a single 1/2" or 5/8" single bent and, or curved rod that extended back and down to about ground level. It was attached to the beam with a simple flat iron clamp which the rod was welded or attached to. It was factory made, but I have no idea who made them. I do remember it worked great. It turned everything under well with very little residue showing.

I could have used those when I plowed all that quack and foxtail this fall. That plow job looks terrible from all the grass on top.
