After I had the head, push rods and rocker arms on my 10-20, I decided to take the head off to check on a mouse nest.

I have reinstalled the head and now the push rods will not seat down far enough allow me to adjust the valve "Lash" -- I had them adjusted before the removal of the head.

What could be keeping all 8 of them from going all the way down?

Dean,I found a old pushrod and took a grinder and made a vertical cut on the end of the pushrod where it fits into the tappet and turn it by hand,it will act like a drill bit and clean the dirt out of the tappets,Turn it a few times and pull it out and wipe it off,do this untill its clean

unless you pull the cam and drop all the tappets out, you're never going to get them truly clean with them still in the engine..............

air blow gun with a long end on it. Use something to poke around and loosen the crud and then blow it out. Should be able to get it out of the pushrod seat in the tappet. Most of it will still be trapped in that part of the block but it was there before. You can rig up an extension on a shop vac to get down there and suck some of the loose stuff up too.

You could try cleaning the tappets out with a gun cleaning brush, maybe chuck it in a drill. You could rinse them out with some diesel fuel. You may want to double check your valve clearance after it runs awhile in case more dirt/ rust works it's way out.
