Guys,

I am having trouble with flooding on Carter carb on Super A. Recent rebuild and it was starting like a charm for months, then suddenly anytime you start it, it floods really bad out the overflow on breather side of carb.
I have taken back apart and actually adjusted float slightly to shut off sooner, needle valve and seat are new and still look fine.

Any bright ideas of how to stop this?
It runs great....outstanding once running.

Thanks

Either the float has developed a leak, the float is hanging up on something, or there is a speck of rust lodged in the needle and seat.

I have that trouble with mine Carter if I shut the fuel off and let engine run until the carb runs dry. The float stick and i just tap on the side of the carb and its straighten out.

Get a new carb. Carter will drive you crazy! I know this from experience. If you do you will never look back.

I have spent considerable time working on a Carter on one of my Super Cs. I could never get it to stop leaking with the fuel on and the engine not running. I finally gave up and just shut the fuel off every time. I think I have a leak somewhere internally, but have never been able to find it. I purchased a Marvel Schebler cast iron carb for it. About 6 years later, I have yet to put it on.

If it was the float sticking or trash in the needle why would it run so well? It does not leak at all until I hit the starter and create the vacuum on the intake.

Are you using the choke because the weather is now cold, and when the A started GOOD the weather was warm? These old Farmalls do not like to be choked. My suggestion is engage the starter and get the engine turning over, and then use just a little bit of choke if needed to make it fire.
