Hello All,
Think the 454 need a solenoid as it dosent always engage the flywheel and now it just clicks.
The battery is new and connections look clean but the starter wouldnt always engage when started. how hard is the starter to remove as I am not a mechanic i can do minor repairs but if it is technical I may need it worked on by someone else . Also it has a loader on it too.
Thanks

I would not describe that job as non-technical, but it is not all that difficult. Removing the starter is not too bad, although the loader MIGHT interfere a bit, and taking the starter apart is not that bad either, but getting it all back together again can be a bit of a trick if you have never done it before.

If starter is Delco, try turning solenoid battery bolt 1/2 turn. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove all wires from solenoid battery bolt. Loosten second nut out to about 4 threads from end of bolt. Push bolt in and turn 1/2 and pull back out, is square shoulder inside like a carriage bolt. Tighten nut, replace all wires and nut. Hook up ground wire and try it out. Lots of Delco solenoids can be fixed this way as large terminal washer always wears one side of bolt head and other side is like new. Worth a try.
