How do you all keep the paint on the exhaust side of an 86 series tractor?

Use the heat shield decal IH offers.....# 538657R1

This will fix the problem.

The replective tap helps, on my 1486 I removed the muffler and installed a pipe in place you buy them on line or make your own the tractor is no louder in the cab and rapped it with muffler tap like is used on race cars.

Is the IH heat shield something other than the reflective tape? Quite a few years ago I got a heat shield from them that was just the reflective tape and it didn't do the job very well. Maybe there's something new and improved now that I'm not aware of. Jim

It's a reflective "chrome" heat decal. I've used 2 of them at times, as 1 doesn't cover that much area.
