460 D sleeve

I'm ready to replace a bad sleeve in my 460 diesel. Any advice?
I have the sleeve in the freezer right now and it will stay in there until the weekend.
What lube, if any should I use?
The piston rings rusted to the old sleeve from water in the exhaust. It was the only one that was bad. The rest of the sleeve/pistons and bearings are all in good shape. I will ring all six cylinders as I reassmemble. The valves llok good and it appears to have had an inframe prior to my purchasing it. Alledged starter problems was original reason it was parked.

make sure the bore is good and clean. i would try the sleeve some to see that it goes in with resistance before freezing it. it should take a good push for it to be right. too loose is no good as it will break off the top and be pulled down. thats why some people use loctite on them. you need to check the stand out at top of sleeve. all 6 should be within .002 of each other.the spec is .003-.007.
have you removed valves from head to check valves and seats and guides?

Yes, i took the head to a machine shop to have it pressure checked and they were as I thought, thinking the engine might have had an inframe not long befor it was parked. I was told the starter was removed to be rebuilt and, well who really knows.

Cylinder head valve recession distance is critical for easy starting on those engines. The closer they are to the .003" minimum spec the easier they will start.

Rain water, it was and is an Arizona tractor from down around casa grande where I bought it. I don't think freezing would be a problem
