Super C overhaul

Just spent the last 2 days getting ready to do an in the frame overhaul. Everything seems to be in really good shape. Someone had been in it before. It is going to need push rods for sure as 4 of them are bent. The exhaust of #1 was bent enough that it was rubbing a hole in the side of it. I do not see them listed in any of the parts places for sale, so I need to know where to get them. I did not know if you can tell from the picture if the head had ever been machine or if there some way to measure it. The machine marks look to be the ones from the factory. I would like to take about .050 or .060 off of it. The old sleeves and the pistons are the orginals. I will put the bigger sleeves with the domed pistons back in. I need to know the part number on the pushrods as the book lists a couple of different part numbers. The block has number 354893 R2 on it. The head has 251172 R. The intake valve has 57797-D TP and the exhaust valve has 57798-P with SIL-TXCR below it. Also, both the bleeder holes in the manifold are filled shut. I can not decide to unclog them or leave them. Any help on the pushrods would be appeciated.

Push rods should be easy to find, I have some from a BN, not sure if super C is the same though. You could just straighten yours. Just roll them over a flat surface to see where they're bent and tweak as needed.
I personally wouldn't mill the head unless it's warped, but feel free if you want to increase the compression ratio. Valve seats look good from what I can see. Same with the pistons and sleeves, if the old ones are decent I would reuse them. I would unplug the holes in the manifold I believe they're there to let condensation drain out.

With the hi-domed pistons you dont need to mill the head. If you are looking for more HP change the head with one from a 340. Pushrods can be straightened easy or i have some just need the length of what you need. Better get your starter serviced with new brushes commutator refreshed and bearings so you can start when done. Also get 1ga new cables and ground to the hy assy. Running the ground back to steering post isnt a good idea as you need the ground close to the starter and no you dont need to go to 12v

any idea what bent your pushrods?

reason I ask is I just went thru something similar on my ford 4000 4 cyl.. all 4 intake rods bent.. exhaust, only 1 bent..

I would have that crankshaft measured for wear at your local auto machine shop. Buy your bearings from them. Hal

The push rod part no's. as listed in my Super C parts catalog are: 47386D, 357548R1 or 360213R91. These part no's. are all optional to each other and the same part no's. are used for all four intake and exhaust valves. Don't have a clue how easy they will be able to locate but as Gene noted they can be easily straightened if necessary. Some straight ones from a salvage engine is probably a good option if you can't locate new ones and straightened ones are not the way you want to go. Hope this helps, Hal.

I have a whole box full of push rods i bought from a collector's estate. I'm sure there might be a good one in there, if you can't find one elsewhere

I am going to run down the street tomorrow and see what the Case guys tell me. If you have time to look, the ones I have are 10.750" long. Also, let me know what you would have to have for them. Thanks.
