missing serial numer tag

Since the serial numer tag is missing on a Farmall M tractor, is the number stamped or located any where else on the tractor????

Thanks for answers, muchly appreciated.
Have a good day.

Engine serial number is stamped on the block just below #1 spark plug. If the M is early enough, the engine number and the chassis serial number are the same. If the M is a later year model, the numbers probably would NOT match. The casting codes will give the approximate age of the tractor.

Sometime in the last few years the IH serial # records for the first serial # of tractors and engines built that month can be viewed at the wisconsin historical society web site. May take some looking to find the information but if the engine is original to the chassis it will tell you the month and year the engine went into a tractor. When you find the month engine was installed look at the tractor serial numbers built that month. That will narrow down the possible serial # of the tractor.
Or if you have trouble post the engine #. I have noticed M numbers for years and may be able to get you closer on some.
