Just bought a F656D and an 80 blower to clean my rural driveway. I changed the hydraulic oil and filter, using Hy Tran. Today blowing heavy snow, I find that the PTO clutch slips under anything more than medium light load. I completed the job. Is there a simply solution to my problem. Is there a seperate oil resevoir for the PTO. When I changed the hyd oil, about 1.5 gallons of water came out, then creamy excuse of oil. This tractor sat out for the past year prior to my purchase.

First off to save you time and money find someone that has the test fitting and a gauge to check pressure , if it is low then crank up the pressure to around 215- 230 and see if it holds . If it still slips then it is time for a clutch pac. The hyd. oil all comes from the same place so your good to go on that . You can also just try loosen the lock nut on the valve stem and give it a couple turns up into the linkage nut . But i would rather ya had a gauge on it before you just crank it.

Thankyou Mr. T. V. for your prompt reply. I always read your comments . I was looking for a 263 but here in Ontario, most were diesel. However, one member of my family rins an Oliver 1550 gasser, and yes he uses high test gas. Here, that means 91 octane. He is very careful and does not overload, as he just does his own snow. Will get a pressure guage from my IH mech and do as you suggest. Again many thanks from snowy eastern Ontario. Ont 656.

The linkage on the 656 pto has a problem with breaking over center. If you have a gauge on it this will be easy to see. It will go up to the correct pressure as you pull up on the lever and as you reach the top of the stroke you will loose pressure. I cured this by welding a 3/8 nut to the side of the linkage just above the plunger. Then you can put the proper length bolt in it so that hits the frame of the tractor at the proper location. Put a jam nut on it and you are good to go. Even after a rebuild I wasn't able to maintain pressure until after I did this. Hope this helps.
