Zachary Hoyt are u there

a while back u posted about putting a washer on the steering shaft to get rid of the the wobble. Do you remember what size you used. I was wondering if I could get a little more info on it

I found one that was about the size of the worm gear on the outside and put it in. The first one was a little too tight (the steering had little to no play but the wheel was hard to turn), so I looked in my random washers can and found a slightly thinner one of about the same diameter and put that in and it has been fine since then. It has a couple of degrees of play but turns easily. I think the thickness you ned would depend on how much wear your gear and gearbox have.

The ball bearing should be held solid by the step in the gear box front hole, and the big plug. The bearing is the sole endplay control for the worm. If the worm is moved outward toward the front of the tractor by putting a shim under the ball bearing, the worm will be operating on a patch of the worm that is new to the sector. Not much, because there are limits to the extent to which this can be taken. Be sure the entire travel of the gear is not binding. I do not know how much additional life is generated this way, but I suspect the wear pattern is not as "correct" as it was new. But it is worth a try. Jim
