Radiator fluid question

Is checking the fluid in the radiator as simple as looking under the cap? Sorry for the dumb question but I have never had to check or replace the fluid on an M before....

My other question is can i just use 50/50 mix from Advanced Auto or is there a special fluid mix i need to use...

yup just check the level at the cap. if there is a little too much, she'll burp out what she doesnt want. the pre-mix green is fine, or you can mix your own, best to use distilled or rain water in the radiator instead of well or tap water to keep the excess minerals down.

When you buy the 50/50 mix you are paying about twice as much for the active antifreeze as you are buying 1/2 gallon of water and 1/2 gallon of antifreeze.

That 50/50 stuff is just fine if you like to throw away good money. You figure it is 1 gal. that you pay $7.95 for so you in fact pay $7.95 for half a gal of antifreeze. Or you can buy a full gal of anti freeze and pay around $10 for it. Its your money but me I buy and mix my own. As for checking the radiator you pop the cap and make sure you have enough coolant in it to cover the fins about half an inch

Fair enough, I just wanted to make sure it was ok to use 50/50 to really just top it off (i have a gallon in the shed already)....When I replace the fluid in there with new fluid I do plan to mix my own, just wanted to make sure there was not a mix i was unfamiliar with. thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it as always.

The level should be down about half way to the cores when cold. There is no expansion tank, so topping it off is no good. Do not keep refilling it unless it has issues with overheating. Jim
