M rear axle clamps

Will M rear axle clamps from pneumatic cast wheels interchange with clamps on steel wheels? Best I can measure the center to center distance of bolts is 4 1/4" but I have not been able to get an accurate measurement of bolts from outer bolt to inner bolt. The clamps on the Steel wheel is obviously larger, but I am attempting to use a Pneumatic clamp on a Steel wheel. Just trying to save time and energy by asking rather than lifting tractor and attempting to make something fit and finding out there ain't no way! Thanks-John

M clamp with 3/4 bolts is 4 or 4-1/16 center to center across axle and 4-1/2 center to center inside of wheel to outside. 2 piece clamps were used on some M replacement cast wheels and on 8 spoke cast wheels 450 etc. Uses 7/8 bolts like the steel wheel and wouldn't matter on inside to outside measure. Same center to center across axle as the regular M cast wheel clamp though.

Dont think they will interchange, the demension you are refering to is the problem. The later 400/450 had a pair of cast clamps per wheel casting with fine thread bolts, early 400/450 had same as Super M & M, all had single clamp with coarse threads. The axle diameter was same on all these, also some 460, all 560, 656/666/686.

If his measure is correct I agree they probably won't work.
Cast wheel 365345R1 that looks Like a M wheel except for 7/8 bolt holes and a steel key and clamps like most 400 and a lot of later tractors was a replacement wheel for M,SM,SMTA and early 400. Wheel can be found on tractors from time to time. Have put one keyway axles in early tractors and used a set. Thats the M two piece clamps mentioned in the other post.
