H PTO shaft

Just a quick question, Does anyone know if the complete PTO shaft & housing from a 48 H is interchangeable with a 41 H ? The 41 has the smaller splined out shaft. Thanks

I"m pretty sure you will need to change the countershaft also, the end of the countershaft is different/stronger on the newer one.

My 1939 Farmall M was changed from the smaller pto shaft to the larger standardized size many years ago. The old shaft is still in the shed. Not sure what other parts were needed to change it over though. I have never found any other old power take off parts tucked away, so I assume the new shaft just fitted straight in. I could, of course, be wrong.

If its a 41 the 48 pto and shaft will be okay. Late 40 up has the splined countershaft.

Serial number 45613/45614 is the serial number break when the shaft was updated to the splines rather than the dog clutch.

I just changed my 39 back to the right PTO and had to change the counter shaft back to the old style as well.

They made an adapter but I have never seen one.
