the local H I went to look at didn't pan out. was a heap...

I'm driving north of town a couple cities for work today and have found another one in a local for sale paper i'm reading here at lunch..

Is an H with a pull mower.

Now.. every time I've loaded a pull implement, we always have another tractor and laoder available to load / unlaod, and just set for or aft of trailered tractor. In this case, there won't be another tractor or a loader available... and I'd like some ideas / opinions / comments.

I have a gooseneck trailer with beaver tail and flip down ramps. she is a deckover so the angle gets pretty good. To load a minivan I've had to bring 'oil change' ramps AND a spare set of 5' ramps tht used to be on my lil flatbed lowboy before I got this gooseneck. I'd flip down the gn ramps onto the oil change ramps section that holds the tire, then lay the 5' ramps on from there making a long ramp at a much more friendly angle to load.

I'm guessing this H and a pull mower are going to get into a funny angle trying to load.. PLUS I'll have to use a 3rd ramp, a 3'shorty, for the narow front end. normall on a trike the 3' shorty for the missle and normal flip down is FINE due to the ground clearance a rowcrop has... just never did it with a pull implement on... I can possibly borrow a set of 4' ramps from work, if I need to make that 3' ramp in the middle a lil longer.. just double it up or something.

ideas / opinions?

On my trailer I have used a couple 2X8s for a center ramp for the front of a tractor like an H. If your trailer is long enough I would say you could drive the H and the mower right on and then when home use one of your loaders to take the mower off then drive the H off with out it.

i dont see a problem with driving the tractor on with mower hooked to it. tractor has lots of clearance compared to a mini van. dont even matter if the mower sits on beaver tail.

You don't need a middle ramp for a narrow front. The tractor is driven on at an angle. Front end goes up the outside ramp and is turned when on beaver tail. The rear wheels will track properly onto the ramps.

May need some front weight if mower is attached. Can you just let the mower hinge on drawbar so it doesn't add a cantilever to the tractor.

Straight draw bar or does it have the big U shaped one that is normal on an H. If it has the U shaped one you could hook up a chain real close to the draw bar and put the chain in the hitch part of the mower and then pin it. Hooking close would keep the front of the mower up high and the chain would let the mower pivot enough to come right up behind you and not try to lift the front end of the tractor up

Is backing the mower on first an option? I would tend to think that if you get the mower on first, by the time it reaches the point where you would need the "bend" the tractor would be up on the ramps.

As Brownie 450 noted below just back the trailer wheels into a ditch if at all possible and the trailer bed will generally be level to the ground. I use that technique for loading and unloading on the farm all the time with no issues. Hope it works out for you, Hal.

i have done that with my JD B and the farmall C.. i'm not fond of doing it that way though.. makes my pants tighten up :)

as to the mower hinging on the drawbar.. i havn't looke dthe connection over. it may / may not have some give already.. no front weight available for the tractor.

will see.

I'm making another post / thread with more info on a few changes that just occured.

When you say "pull mower" I envision a trailer-type Bush Hog that hooks to the drawbar with a drawpin. Follows along behind the tractor like a trailer.

Is that what you are buying?

If so, you're overthinking things. Back it on or pull it on. Just be careful and you'll be fine.

yep. just like you described. pull type mower on drawbar. I just was wondering about angles and bottomong mower on beavertail.. etc..

Unhook the PTO shaft, slide the swinging drawbar off to one side and hitch the mower directly to the center hole in the horsehoe. That mower will most likely just follow the tractor right up the ramps with no issues.
