#8 plow bottoms Super H with pictures

This is a IH #8 plow. The plow chief bottoms are very worn but the rest of the plow is in really good shape. We plowed the garden with it today and it worked surprisingly well for the shape of the bottoms.

I want to replace the bottoms. What should I go to? Pictures and parts #'s would be great.

If you can find Super Chief Frogs, they will bolt right on and you can still buy parts for them at a Case/IH Dealer

It is common to replace the entire bottom, including frog with the Super Chief. The late model CaseIH plows were the same design. Any 700(700-710-720) series plow should have the Supers, and many others since the mid 60s.

I would say your bottoms are pretty good, you could try filling in the holes on the moldboard with hardface. Some guys around here talk about doing things like that to their plows. The points probably have been replaced, they are nice and long. As long as you can find replacement wear parts you can leave it as is with a patch job, but there's a reason the Super Chiefs are a common swap--parts availability.

AgriSupply has Chinese-made Plow Chief spearpoints for about $8 each. From what I've heard they can be hit or miss on quality.

Some of the Plow Chief wear parts are still available NOS, but are not cheap.

Your best bet is to find a newer 3pt or semi-mounted plow with the Super Chief bottoms at an auction, and buy it cheap. You can easily find the wear parts for these online, at about 1/2 of the Tractor Supply stores, and stacked on the floor in the showroom of your friendly neighborhood CaseIH dealer in the spring.

I have 2, NEW, Old stock, Super Chief IHC points and shares for a 2-12"s, #8 plow. Going to put them, and my #8 plow in the photo ads this week, tired of moving them, and don"t figure at my age to ever use the plow again.

Those points are SHOT. I would look up or Agri-Supply as others have mentioned for points. You could probably buy new points from your CIH dealer for less money and hassle than it would take to put Super Chief bottoms on it that would probably still need new shares and shins. New Plow Chief points from CIH are of high quality and would make the plow go in the ground much better than one with Super Chief bottoms. The moldboards can be easily patched.
